IEI Young Engineer Award for Dr. Neelima Satyam

Dr. Neelima Satyam, Assistant Professor with IIIT-H's Earthquake Engineering Research Centre (EERC), has been selected to receive the Institution of Engineers (India) Young Engineer Award 2011-12.

The award is in acknowledgement of Dr. Neelima Satyam's research and achievements in the Civil Engineering discipline and will be presented at this year's National Convention of Civil Engineers to be held at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Raipur in October.

The award, which recognizes outstanding contributions in engineering research, academics, engineering technology development, or technology transfer, is presented annually, to a researcher below 35 years of age, in each of following eight disciplines – agriculture, computer science, electronics, electrical, chemical, aerospace, civil, and mechanical engineering.

Dr. Neelima's research interests span a range of sub-disciplines of geotechnical engineering – geotechnical earthquake engineering, microzonation and site response studies, micromechanics of granular materials, numerical methods in geomechanics, estimation of vulnerability index using microtremor measurements, post earthquake damage studies, instrumentation in geotechnical earthquake engineering, rock mechanics and rock engineering.

Dr. Neelima, who has been working with IIIT H since Feb 2009, had earlier received the Best Research Award from Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) in 2006 for her innovations in field exploration and in situ testing.
