Master of Science in IT in Building Science by Research

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

After completion of this program successfully, the graduates will be able to

PEO 1: Exhibit broad basic knowledge in sub-areas of Civil Engineering such as Structural / Earthquake Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, and Climate Science

PEO 2: Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to handle the real world problems by transforming theoretical knowledge to practice

PEO 3: Exhibit proficiency in understanding the State of the Art Research in Building Science and allied areas as well as research aptitude, analytical skills to further the State of the Art

PEO 4: Exhibit creative abilities to formulate novel and relevant research problems, themes and find meaningful ways to solve them, and demonstrate affinity towards collaborative research and engagement with peers.

PEO 5: Demonstrate the ability for deeper and analytical interpretations of both foundational and applied problems, pro-activity towards developing and adapting new technology and to be constantly engaged in innovation and development.

 

Program Outcomes (POs) and Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

After completion of Master of Science in IT in Building Science, the Postgraduates will be able to

PO1: Define, defend, and solve problems related to building performance and simulation

PO2: Large Scale and Long Scale Problem Solving: Exhibit ease and comfort to handle problems that require persistent engagement over time as well as in scale and demonstrate adequate mental stamina and clarity over temporally long durations for problems for which solutions mature with time

PO3: Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modelling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations. 

PO4: Research Abilities: Develop a healthy understanding of the current state of the art research, formulate novel frameworks/approaches to advance the state of the art, exhibit versatility in verifying the formulated approaches through simulation and experiments. 

PO5: Collaboration with Peers, Teamwork: Recognize the positive influence of collaboration to execute complex research and engineering tasks and actively engage in collaboration and teamwork within and outside of the institute to advance the state of the art of knowledge

PO6: Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

 

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

PSO1: Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and practical skills of analysing heat transfer in buildings, design, and analysis of various building services, evaluate sustainability and smart aspects of buildings, and formulate problems in the thrust areas of building automation, building simulation, building analytics, sustainable and smart buildings.

PSO2: Demonstrate conceptual understanding of HVAC, lighting, daylighting, passive architecture, renewable energy, and their applications in residential and commercial buildings and solve problems in the emerging areas of designing sustainable buildings with focus on human health and comfort and life cycle assessment.

PSO3: Apply the knowledge of the main components of IoT for real-world applications for building operations.

PSO4: Apply the knowledge gained through simulations, laboratory and field experiments in the development and implementation of policies in the area of building science at city, state, and national level.
