Wikimedia Technology Summit 2024

The Wikimedia Technology Summit 2024 successfully took place from October 3 to 5, 2024, drawing an enthusiastic gathering of technologists, developers, and volunteer contributors of Wikimedia projects from all over the country. Hosted by the International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad with support from Indic MediaWiki Developers User Group and the Wikimedia Foundation, the summit had a one-day Hackathon on the IIIT Hyderabad campus and the summit at Hotel Hyatt Gachibowli. The summit gathered 130 attendees from across India to discuss the latest trends and innovations in open-source technology and Wikimedia projects.

Winners of Wi-SUN Smart City Challenge

From smart dustbins to soil quality testing systems, innovators from across the country showcased their smart city innovations based on IoT at the ‘Wi-SUN Challenge’ conducted by US-based Silicon Labs at IIITH on Thursday. As many as 266 contestants demonstrated proof of concept using prototypes based on Wi-SUN technology and artificial intelligence. Of the eight shortlisted innovators, DBR Innovative Tech bagged the first prize and a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh for their smart soil sensor, followed by Horus (Rs 2 lakh) and Yantram (Rs 1 lakh). The winners will receive support from Silicon Labs’ wireless development centre in Hyderabad for product development.

Sushil Raaja Umasudhan has won a silver medal at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI-2024) held in Alexandria, Egypt from 1 to 8 September and a Gold medal in this year’s Asia Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO-2024) organized online by China.
