IIIT Hyderabad marked the 77th Republic Day on 26 January at the Football Grounds with great patriotic fervour and a vibrant sense of community. The celebrations began with a warm welcome address by student representatives, followed by a disciplined march past by students and security personnel. Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla hoisted the national flag, after which the gathering joined in the national anthem. The formal programme featured addresses by the Director and the Registrar, alongside speeches by the General Secretary and Speaker of the Student Parliament, and an address by the Dean of Student Affairs.
A special segment commemorating 150 years of “Vande Mataram” added a reflective and inspiring dimension to the event.
Cultural performances by IIITH student clubs, the Cultural Council, and children of faculty and staff added colour and energy to the celebrations. The programme concluded with the distribution of refreshments to all attendees.
Following the Republic Day programme, the NSS–IIIT Hyderabad Blood Donation Drive, organised in association with Osmania Medical Blood Bank, was held, underscoring the institute’s commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.
The International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad (IIITH) celebrated its 28th Foundation Day on 2 September, reinforcing its legacy of academic excellence and research leadership with a special focus on Cybersecurity.
The celebrations were graced by Dr. Jitender, Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana, as the Chief Guest, and Ms. Shikha Goel, IPS, Director, Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB), as the Guest of Honour. Together, they inaugurated IIITH’s new Cyber MANTHAN (Cybersecurity Management and Next-Gen Technology Advancement Network) Center and TGCSB’s Vyuha Labs – a Cyber Innovation Lab.
Prof. Sandeep K Shukla, underscored the institute’s vision of interdisciplinary research and nurturing future leaders in technology.
The Foundation Day celebrations also featured the annual Alumni Awards, instituted during IIITH’s Silver Jubilee. This year’s awardees were: Manish Jain (B.Tech Hons, CSE – 2003) – Research Engineer at Google DeepMind, recognised for path-breaking research in AI, Machine Learning, Game Theory, and Multiagent Systems. The other recipient was Naveena Yanamala (MSIT Bioinformatics – 2001) – Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of AI/ML Research at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, New Jersey. She also serves as a Special Government Employee with the US FDA and Adjunct Faculty at Carnegie Mellon University. Naveena was instrumental in stabilising IIITH’s MSIT program, which later led to the establishment of the Centre for Computational Natural Sciences and Bioinformatics.
An MoU between IIIT Hyderabad and Telangana State Cyber Security Bureau (TSCSB) was also signed on the occasion.
IIITH celebrated India’s 79th independence day on 15th August 2025 at Tarangini amphitheatre. The event began with flag hoisting by Prof. P J Narayanan followed by the national anthem; Director’s address; Registrar’s address; oath taking by student parliament secretary, speaker; oath taking by student parliament members; speech and presentation annual report by student parliament; patriotic performances by students, faculty and staff kids. These included a series of inspiring performances including speeches, dances, and musical renditions that celebrate India’s heritage.
Like every year NSS-IIITH conducted a blood donation drive with the support of Osmania General Hospital Authorities to contribute to the well-being of the community.
IIITH’s 24th Convocation was held on 12 July at Global Peace Auditorium, Brahmakumaris Shanti Sarovar, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. Chief Guest, Ms Debjani Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow – NITI Aayog, Chief Architect – NITI Frontier Tech Hub, (ex-President, NASSCOM) gave the convocation address. A total of 529 students graduated during IIIT Hyderabad’s 24th Convocation.
Vineeth Bhat, B.Tech (Honours) in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was awarded the IIITH gold medal in recognition of his outstanding academic performance. Revanth Kumar Gundam, (B.Tech in Computer Science and Master of Science in Computational Linguistics by Research dual degree) was awarded Best All-rounder for his notable contributions in academics, extra-curricular activities and IIITH services. Pradeep Kumar Pal (PhD in Computational Natural Sciences) received the Banyan Award for consistent voluntary efforts relating to student affairs.
The graduating batch consists of 529 students (B.Tech – 109; B.Tech Honours – 64; Dual Degree – 101; Master of Science by Research – 49; M.Tech – 141; Ph.D. – 17 and MSIT – 48).
A total number of 128 companies registered for placements; 75 companies conducted interviews.
Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala, Chairman, Governing Council of IIIT Hyderabad, admitted students to their degrees.
Chief guest Ms Debjani Ghosh Distinguished Fellow, NITI Ayog, and former president of Nasscom congratulated the graduating students and wished them well for their future endeavours.
The team of faculty, research students, research staff, and undergraduate students produced approximately 610 papers in top journals and conferences during the academic year 2024-25. In total, 41 of our Ph.D. students hold external competitive fellowships from the DST, Google, TCS, Microsoft, UGC, CSIR, various iHubs at IIIT-H, and from other organizations. This has resulted in the publication of high-quality research papers in peer-reviewed journals.

The Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems (KCIS) celebrated Sri F C Kohli’s birth anniversary on 19 March with a special program – celebrating his life through research and innovation.
The Kohli Centre on Intelligent Systems (KCIS), named after Sri F C Kohli, houses all the AI research groups in the institute. 50 faculty and 500 researchers, which constitute one of the largest research groups in the country. Ranging from language technologies, computer vision, robotics, cognitive sciences and advanced machine learning, with applications in several domains including mobility and healthcare. The Centre celebrates its anniversary on 19 March, the birth day of Sri F C Kohli. Kohli Day is an annual event recognizing the faculty, researchers, and the Centre’s work, all inspired by the visionary tech leader.
This annual event, which has been celebrated every year since 2021, will from this year include an annual keynote Kohli Day lecture. The inaugural lecture this year was by Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman AIG Hospitals, where he shared his insights on AI & Healthcare – Opportunities and Challenges.
The Cultural Wing of Student Life Committee (SLC) organised International Mother Language Day Celebrations on 21 February with talks by Dr. Madri Kakoti, Department of Linguistics, University of Lucknow on Language and Society: Reflections of Reality and Dr. A Giridhar Rao, Azim Premji University, Bengaluru on Biocultural Diversity, Linguistic Human Rights, and Mother-Tongue Medium Education. This was followed by events by The Language Club of IIIT Hyderabad.
Campus Life Council organised Saraswati Puja/Basant Panchami was celebrated on 2 February at Bakul Warehouse. This auspicious occasion embraces the arrival of Maa Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, learning, music, art and wisdom. Students, faculty, staff, and their family members participated in the festivities. After the puja a special lunch was organised for all the devotees.

This was followed by the Director’s address, Registrar’s address and speeches by Student Parliament general secretary and speaker; and cultural programs – Songs of Renaissance by Ruhani Sangat, The Musical Research Scholars Group from University of Hyderabad (UoH); IIIT student clubs and cultural council; and faculty and staff kids. The programme concluded with distribution of refreshments to all present.
Campus Life Council organised Saraswati Puja/Basant Panchami on 14 and 15 February 2024 at Bakul Warehouse. This auspicious occasion embraces the arrival of Maa Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, learning, music, art and wisdom. Basant Panchami’s main puja began on 14 February morning which was followed by pushpanjali. In the evening there was sandhya aarti followed by cultural programmes. The puja concluded on the morning of 15 February with visarjan puja, followed by dadhikarma.
