SETU Software Systems Pvt Ltd, a startup set up by Dr. Prasad Pingali and Prof. Vasudeva Varma and incubated at IIIT-H's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), was conferred the ITsAP-ADP Best Product Startup award, in the Enterprise category, by the Information Technology & Services Industry Association of Andhra Pradesh (ITsAP), at the 18th Annual Software Products Showcase, Awards and Conference 2009, on March 12 & 13, 2010. The competition saw over 30 entries in the startup category.
SETU builds intelligent systems to help large enterprises improve their information access capabilities. SETU's leading edge products address enterprise customers' needs to search, extract, and summarize large volumes of human language content.
Dr. Prasad Pingali holds a doctoral degree in Indian language information access from IIIT-H and was the doctoral student of Prof. Vasudeva Varma, who heads IIIT-H's Search & Information Extraction Lab (SIEL).
Set up with Indian language search technology from IIIT-H's Language Technologies Research Center (LTRC) and SIEL, SETU is the second most sought after search engine for many of the European languages. The startup currently provides search capability in 70 languages of the world, including several European languages, Arabic, and Indian languages.
The two-year-old visionary startup has already netted Rediff, HMRI, NewsHunt and Samsung as its first clients. SETU is an acronym for Search and Extraction Technologies Unlimited.
