Here is a belated announcement of a highly regarded award to a IIIT-H student.
Lydia Manikonda, a dual degree student of computer science and engineering, was presented the Google India Women in Engineering Award 2011 by Google India. The award is based on excellence in academics, passion for technology, demonstrated leadership, and originality of thought.
She is the fourth IIIT-H student to have been extended the Award in the last 3 years, in a row, since it was instituted in 2008. See below for the past winners of the Award.
Lydia is currently carrying out research on analyzing data mining techniques on image databases under the guidance of Prof. Vikram Pudi at IIIT-H's Center for Data Engineering (CDE) and expects to graduate around next month.
Lydia attributes her passion for technology and research to "the highly motivating and technically challenging atmosphere at IIIT-H”. “My study and research at IIIT-H have helped me get this award," she says with a deep sense of thankfulness.
Though the award was given in March last year, many among the IIIT-H community did not know of it, since Lydia only shared this with a few friends.
The Awards – called Google India Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship from 2012 – are meant to recognize and reward deserving women students in Computer Science and related majors, and inspire them to become active participants and leaders in creating technology.

- Kirti Garg, PhD (CSE) scholar, currently researching on software engineering at IIIT-H's Software Engineering Research Lab (SERL), under the guidance of Prof. Vasudeva Varma, who she says had encouraged her to apply for the award. Kirti is also working as a Teaching Lecturer at IIIT-H and expects to graduate this year.
