IIIT-H has set up a state-of-the-art embedded systems laboratory, as part of the institute's Center for VLSI Design and Embedded System Technologies (CVEST). The lab was set up in collaboration with NXP Semiconductors.

The lab, called NXP Semiconductors Lab, was inaugurated, on April 21, 2011, by Prof. Rajeev Sangal, Director, IIIT-H and Mr. Neeraj Paliwal, Vice President and Country Manager, NXP India.

“The lab, fully sponsored by NXP, will help IIIT-H students and faculty undertake research on cutting edge technologies, test new ideas on a real-time basis, and develop high-end embedded systems products”, said the faculty-member-in-charge of the new lab, Dr. P. Vijaya Sankara Rao, Assistant Professor, IIIT-H.

“The lab further strengthens the infrastructure and capabilities of CVEST and fits into IIIT-H's mission to turn out leading edge research”, said Prof. Rajeev Sangal, Director, IIIT-H.

In January this year, NXP India launched an industry-academia initiative called ‘NXP Anubhav' to set up advanced technology labs at top engineering institutes in India.

"We plan to set up 20 labs across India in 2011 and be actively involved in partnering with them to bring industry knowledge into academia”, said Mr. Neeraj Paliwal, and Country Manager, NXP India.

The other dignitaries who graced the inaugural ceremony included Prof. PJ. Narayanan, Dean R&D, Prof. R. Govinda Rajulu, Registrar, IIIT-H and Head, CVEST, Prof. M. Satyam, Professor of Eminence, CVEST, and Dr. NS Murty, Director, New Business Initiatives and Academic Relations, NXP Semiconductors.
