About the School

The tenth IIIT-H Advanced Summer School on NLP (IASNLP-2020) will be held at IIIT Hyderabad from 29th June to 11th July, 2018. IASNLP 2020 will be a two week school on Natural Language Processing, specifically focused on Speech to Speech Machine translation. The summer school will be project-oriented, while also featuring a set of lectures which will be delivered by eminent Professors and researchers in the field. Lectures are intended to equip the participants with the necessary background to carry out the project, and the participants will choose a project from a list in advance. During the summer school, the participants will work, under the supervision of experts in the respective area, to come up with substantial advancement in their chosen project. Participants will get to present their projects at the end of the school.

Format of the Summer School

The Summer School revolves around a novel project. Usually, each day lectures occupy half of the day, where participants are introduced to the necessary concepts and/or tools necessary for the project. Post that, participants are supposed to work on the project while interacting with mentors.

Pre Summer School Session

There will be a 3-day preschool session from 26th June to 28th June 2020, which will introduce necessary tools for people from different backgrounds and disciplines.

Targeted Participants

IASNLP-2020 will be helpful for students and young faculty who are, or want to, get familiar with Natural Language Processing and would like to explore further topics in the area to work on advanced projects in NLP which they can continue even after the summer school. 25 March 2020Due to recent COVID-19 related issues, IIIT Hyderabad has been under lockdown since March 14, 2020. We will try our best to declare the selected list of candidates on 2nd April 2020. Keeping the current situation, and associated uncertainties of the coming few days, we are assessing how best we can conduct the summer school while ensuring everybody's safety. 02 April 2020 Due to the uncertainties caused by COVID19 and the associated lock down, we are deferring the announcement of Selected candidates list till 1st week of May 2020. 27 May 2020 We hope all of you are staying safe and are in good health. Over the last few months, we have been following health advisories and trying to plan our event accordingly. As we all know there is still uncertainty as to when it would be safe for us to travel and assemble for an event like IASNLP. Keeping this in view, we would be able to make any further announcement regarding the conduct of the event when there is further certainty that the event can be conducted safely, ensuring everybody's health. We understand that all the applicants are eagerly waiting for updates and the summer school. We request your patience and support. For any further updates we will be informing you via mail and updates on website.

How to Apply

Interested participants will have to fill up the forms, and the selected participants will be invited to attend the school.

Registration Fee

Selected participants can pay Registration fee according to the details given.


Registration Charges

Faculty Rs. 5000/-
Student Rs. 500/-
Industry Rs. 15000/-

Appropriate identification would have to be produced for verification.

Financial Support: In special and deserving cases, participants can be given Financial support to meet the registration fee. This will be considered on case by case basis. Please write a mail to iasnlp@iiit.ac.in to apply for Financial support.

Accomodation Charges

Hostel rooms will be on shared basis.Charges towards accomodation will be Rs 2300 for the duration of the Summer School, including the Pre-school. Any additional day will be charged at Rs. 300 per day. Accomodation will be provided in the Boys and Girls hostels within the campus. Payment methodology will be updated later.



Mess Charges

Mess: Rs. 160/day per head. (Breakfast: Rs. 40, Lunch: Rs. 60, Dinner: Rs. 60). You will be directed to mess where you can pay and eat on per meal basis.

Venue Information

1. Reaching IIIT from the airport:

Reaching Hyderabad by a train and getting down at the Hyderabad (Nampally) station would be the easiest way to reach us. The institute is 16km from Nampally railway station. From the railway station one can take an auto or APSRTC bus (Nos: 216 & 217) to reach IIIT-H.

2. Reaching IIIT from the Railway Station:

Reaching Hyderabad by a train and getting down at the Hyderabad (Nampally) station would be the easiest way to reach us. The institute is 16km from Nampally railway station. From the railway station one can take an auto or APSRTC bus (Nos: 216 & 217) to reach IIIT-H.

If one is coming from Secunderabad station which is around 23km from IIIT-H. One can take an APSRTC bus to Mehdipatnam (Nos:5 & 49M), and another bus from Mehdipatnam to IIIT-H (Nos:216, 217).

Some trains, especially those coming from Bombay, stop at Begumpet Railway Station which is about 16km from IIIT-H. If you plan to come by bus, take bus No.49M from there to reach Mehdipatnam and then another bus (Nos: 216 & 217) to reach IIIT-H.

Some trains from Mumbai also stop at Lingampalli, which is just 7 kms from IIIT-H. Autorickshaws and shared mini-taxis (tempos) are available.

3. Nearest Metro Station:

Raidurg Metro station is the nearet metro station, appoximately 5 kms. Autos/cabs can be availed from the metro station to reach the campus.

You are only required to get ID card issued by your institute, which will be required during the physical registration.
