Dear Candidate,

Through this letter, I wish to introduce you to IIIT Hyderabad. I give some salient points of the Institute below.

IIIT-Hyderabad is a research university set up for the advancement of information technologies and is today rated among top 10 technology schools of the country.

Most institutions measure their success through the placement record of their graduating students and IIIT-H is doing exceedingly well on this count. However, we measure our success by the research done at the Institute, and the impact of technologies developed here on industry and society. Faculty and students at the institute are working on several innovative technologies that have the potential to make a global impact. Some of these have been in the news and include machine translation, search engines, speech recognition and synthesis, robotics, multi agent systems, data engineering, computer vision, graphics, VLSI, wireless communications, information security, etc. We have built-up the strongest academic research groups in the country in several areas of Computer Science (CSE) and Electronics & Communications (ECE).

Institute also offers dual-degree programmes in CSE and ECE under which the student gets both degrees in either CSE or ECE. Besides these, there are also trans-disciplinary programmes leading to dual-degrees. B.Tech. in Computer Science and MS in 'X', where 'X' stands for one of the following :

This allows students to pursue new areas along with a strong computational background. Major breakthroughs in research are likely to come from such trans-disciplinary research.

 

 

IIIT-H is perhaps the only institute in the country where even the B.Tech. students can opt to do research during their B.Tech. programme itself in which case they get B.Tech. (Honours) in 4 years.  A unique flexible curriculum allows the student to exercise choices in courses to suit their research interests. As a result, those students fit better at IIIT-H who have a mind and interest in research, and a perseverance to develop technologies. We prepare our students to take up challenging design jobs rather than routine programming jobs, to become entrepreneurs or to take up research careers in industrial research labs or universities by doing Masters or PhD anywhere in the world. Students keen to go for higher study may consider joining the Dual-Degree Programme now itself, which is a premium programme.   Under this program the student gets two degrees: B.Tech (Honours) and MS by Research in about 5 years.  They get the thrill of doing research and making a mark for themselves.

 

 

IIIT-H Special Financial Scheme (ISFAS) is available for needy students. This scheme has been made possible by generous donations from the IIIT alumni.

 

 

Besides technical excellence, the congenial atmosphere at the Institute promotes culture, sports, self-governance, and values, all of which help the students towards becoming complete human beings. For the last five years, there is a special emphasis on value education and inculcating a sense of responsibility. You should be prepared to do your own work in the hostel and the cleaning of your own plate in the mess.
