Center for Security, Theory and Algorithmic Research (C-STAR) Visit Center's Homepage

The Center for Security, Theory and Algorithmic Research (C-STAR) is focused on research and education in areas of information security that are crucial to the protection of critical computing and communication infrastructure. We are interested in both foundational work and applied research. The work of the center members ranges from developing cryptographic and distributed algorithms, definitions, and proofs of security to software and hardware implementations and deployment of new security mechanisms in real systems and applications. Equally important, the center members explore the interplay of cryptography and security with other fields, including algorithms, complexity theory, networks, distributed computing, Human Computer Interaction and Cognitive Psychology.

Focus Areas:
Research focus areas for the faculty involved with the center are:

• Information Security, Distributed Computing, Cryptography.
• Intrusion Detection, Malware Analysis, Firewalls, Key management, Network Security.
• Theory of network communications, Graph algorithms, Parallel algorithms, High performance computing.
• Security and usability, Identification and Authentication, Privacy.

Some Current Projects:

• Crypto Toolkit, Security in VoIP, Secure log fles, Acyclic Edge Coloring of Complete Graphs, Distributed Graph Coloring Algorithms, Geometric Algorithms and Data, Structures for Large Scale VLSI Layouts

Achievements

• Consultation provided to Govt. of A.P. in Social Security Identifcation Number (SSID) generation and in deploying security tools for AP State Wide Area Network (APSWAN) and AP Secretariat Campus Area Network (APSCAN)
• Designed crypto-systems for Central Research Lab of Bharat Electronics Ltd., Bangalore (CRL/ BEL)
