Primary Research & MS Thesis

  • My thesis topic is Mining landmark papers for a given user query and thesis advisor is Dr. Vikram Pudi. We focus on the problem of finding documents (research papers) from a text corpus based on user specified keyphrases and also identifying the first document from the corpus where important keyphrases introduced for the first time. Our work has been published on SIGAI Workshop on Emerging Research Trends in Artificial Intelligence (ERTAI-2010). (Ongoing)

Internship Project

  • Deriving Structural Information from Digitized Books using FACTORIE
    The aim of this project is to build navigation tools for digitized books by constructing hyperlinked table of contents (TOC) using FACTORIE.To achieve our task we used Conditional Random Fields (CFRs) approach implemented in FACTORIE. During my internship, I was the part of Document Structure lab under the guidance of Jean-Luc Meunier (Senior Research Engineer) at XRCE, France.

Major Projects

  • ProMax: A Profit Maximizing Recommendation System for Market Baskets (under Dr. Vikram Pudi)
    The aim of this project is to utilize data mining concepts to recommend an optimal set of items to customers in a retail store based on the contents of their market baskets. The recommended set of items maximizes the expected profit of the store and is decided based on patterns learnt from past transactions. In addition to concepts of clustering, association rules and frequent itemsets, the proposed method also combines ideas of recommendations systems and knapsack problems to decide on the items to recommend. We focus on the problem of recommending products to customers in retail stores such that the profit of the store is maximized. Our work has been published on SIGAI Workshop on Emerging Research Trends in Artificial Intelligence (ERTAI-2010).
  • Profit Mining: from Patterns to Action (under Dr. Vikram Pudi)
    The aim of the project is for a given set of past transactions and re-selected target items; we would like to build a model to recommend target items and promotion strategies to new customers, with the goal of maximizing net profit. We identify several issues in profit mining and propose solutions.
  • Focused Crawling (under Dr. P. K. Reddy)
    The primary focus of this project is to fetch the pages within a certain topic. The focused crawler is guided by a classifier to recognize relevance from examples embedded in a topic taxonomy. It is possible to analyze the topical structure of the web. The user collects URLs that are examples of her interest The system reports the most popular sites and resource lists, and user can give the feedback by marking them useful or not. This feedback goes to the classifier and distiller.
  • Mining Patterns From E-sagu data (under Dr. Kamalakar Karlapalem)
    The main focus of this project is to mine the real world e-sagu datasets with different data mining techniques like association rule mining, data clustering and classification to find out the interesting patterns and analyze the nature of data. We also applied techniques like Attribute Oriented Induction (AOI) on “weather details” table and provided cross-tabs to extract relevant information. This project is very useful for farmers for cultivation. We can provide different advices to the farmers as to what kind of chemicals, fertilizers they should use, etc.
